A Passion for Helping Young Learners Thrive
I am a mother of 2 young children and invested a lot of my time and effort into preparing my children for the 4+ assessment, with a specific school in mind. With my dedication, 4 Plus Tutor was founded, through referrals from parents, the business has grown substantially. The inspiration was supporting 2 to 4 years old's during a key stage in their lives. While preparing my own children, I met so many parents that were unsure on how to prepare their own children for the assessment, or simply don't have the time. I learned early on that children need nurturing support to thrive, combined with a lack of specialised 4+ tutors.
As a mother with a passion for early child development, combined with the number of families I have helped over the years, I formed 4 Plus Tutors, focusing on EYFS experiences, with strong tutoring background and skills. My passion is to help little ones gain confidence, promoting healthy early learning, while reducing parents stress. My 4 Plus Tutor core values include kindness, patience, personalisation, educational integrity, and play-led learning. Through this tutoring focus, I have already helped many families secure the right school for their little one, building a strong foundation for their future.
I know how unique every single child is, how their abilities differ, how their personalities are different. I believe in providing your child with curiosity and job, building a foundation that will last throughout their school lives, and beyond. Every session is tailored to your child's personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. I identify gaps, focusing on areas that need improvement in a fun, nurturing, and comfortable way that children enjoy. The last thing I want is your child to feel pressured when it comes to their 4+ assessment. My focus at 4 Plus Tutor, is your child arrives at the assessment with confidence, enjoying the experience, so it feels natural and seamless.
With each school having their own assessment process, I know what needs to be focused on. This is not an academic tutoring session, but rather a safe, secure, fun, and welcoming environment that children enjoy. I make every session feel like a game, that encourages children to play and learn at the same time, helping them prepare effectively for their assessment without realising, while providing parents with peace of mind.

My Early Years Approach to 4+ Assessments
I have excellent knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, ensuring 4 Plus Tutor aligns with the seven areas of learning. This national framework sets the standards when it comes to learning, development and care, focusing on children from birth to the age of five. It is what guides national nurseries, preschools, and Reception classes on what children should be learning, along with how they are supported at each developmental stage.
The seven key areas of learning include communication and language, physical development, and personal, social, and emotional development, which are essential for school readiness. Specific areas of learning include literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, along with expressive arts and design, helping children build a balanced foundation before they enter formal schooling. At 4 Plus Tutor, I do not push your child, I guide them through the same developmental milestones set by EYFS. For example, EYFS milestones will focus on listening, understanding instructions, and speaking clearly. My tutoring is effective in supporting this learning area through story retelling, discussions, role-play, and questions that helps develops reasoning.
I do not believe at such a young age, that the 4+ assessment should feel pressured. It is a developmental check that identifies where your child can shine. My approach ensures your little one feels confident and comfortable when arriving at their assessment and being left alone with a strange teacher and a small group of new friends. My approach is effective, as I focus on learning through play, creating age-appropriate challenges, progressing skills in a gentle way, along with helping to encourage curiosity naturally, and building independence.
My methods have proven to be effective, not only for my own 2 children, but for the many families I have helped in the past. I do not believe in drilling your child with answers and putting pressure on them. I want them to thrive naturally, answering with confidence, while ensuring that the school feels it is not rehearsed, but your child's natural response. I have tried and tested my tutoring methods extensively over the years, helping little ones build the skills they need for Reception, from phonics awareness to reasoning, fine motor skills, focusing, and listening. This can be matching pictures to sounds, rhyming activities, sound games, stories and songs, all of which help your child be confident in identifying sounds quickly once they start school.
Every tutoring session is adapted to your child's personality, whether they are curious, energetic, shy, distracted, or sensitive. My focus is to reinforce confidence, emotional readiness, and joy, the foundations of their future success.

I am constantly improving my knowledge and I appreciate parental reviews, helping me understand how my tutoring is making a difference in each families life. I use lesson-planning resources, and undergo ongoing training, ensuring that I use the latest techniques to provide you child with the foundation they need to get into the school of your choice. I believe as a 4+ tutor, patience, warmth, creativity, and professional integrity are key to ensuring your child receives the support that they need, without realising that they are being tutored.
I know what a big deal it is to leave your child in tutors company for the first time. I take the time to get to know each child, building trust with both parents and children, through communication, consistency, and gentle encouragement every step of the way. I genuinely care about every child I work with, wanting them to leave my sessions feeling that they have achieved something. I believe preparing for 4+ assessments should build belief in themselves, not doubt. I do know that when your child feels encouraged, they flourish emotionally, which is essential to their academic readiness.
While the 4+ assessment is only one morning, meaningful preparation is what takes time. I recommend that children start their 4+ tutoring at least one year before their assessment. This helps to create a balanced approach that allows your child's skills to build gradually, rather than urgently and pressurised. This helps to eliminate the last-minute pressure that can negatively impact your child's confidence, taking into account that most children start their 4 Plus Tutor experience at the age of two or three.
With a gentle and nurturing approach to preparing your child for their 4+ assessment, I believe 4 Plus Tutor is the right choice to encourage natural communication, emotional readiness, and confidence. It provides your child with a strong foundation to ensure their assessment feels comfortable and natural.

Supporting Families Through 4 Plus Tutoring
Starting with 4 Plus Tutor early has shown positive outcomes over the past few years. Families using my specialist 4+ tutoring have found their children are more confident, calmer, and prepared for their assessment. One of the most common challenges with younger children is being left at a school for the very first time with teachers and children they don't know. My tutoring process helps children build confidence, feeling calmer in these situations, which overcomes their shyness or nervousness in new situations. In turn, this not only helps them thrive during the assessment, but helps them thrive in the school environment.
I have helped families secure top independent schools nationally, meeting their assessment expectations with confidence. My services are not academic sessions. I focus solely on 4+ assessments, using my extensive knowledge and experience to help children with emotional development, focus, resilience, and behaviour. Many of the families I have assisted in the past send their friends to me to help their children prepare for the 4+ assessment. This word of mouth has helped 4 Plus Tutor grow into a trusted tutoring services, designed with your little one in mind.
The foundations your child will build with 4 Plus Tutor goes far beyond passing the 4+ assessment for your chosen school, it builds long-term development, that will influence your child's life moving forward. My focus is building a strong foundation, rather than a short-term outcome. I know how important expressive language, listening, and attention are to this stage, influencing the assessment, and long-term classroom confidence. When your child's foundations are strong, their academic progress follows naturally, providing lasting benefits.
My sessions are structured, but flexible enough to allow room for curiosity. I design activities that have clear objectives, yet they are provided in an engaging manner, that encourages your child to learn. Children learn best when they feel they are involved in the process, encouraging independent thinking, which is essential for assessment readiness. At 4 Plus Tutor, I don't feel that preparation for the 4+ assessment should feel like exam training, I believe it should feel like healthy development. I focus on strengthening your child's readiness, while preserving fun and joy in learning. Children grow with care, feeling secure during the assessment stage. This balance is what sets 4 Plus Tutor apart, ensuring the 4+ assessment preparation enhances their childhood, rather than disrupting it.

A child does not need to be tutored for their 4+ plus assessments as I believe they are too young. They simply need some guidance through play based activities to help expand their minds.
